Hail To The Cab
International Cabernet Sauvignon Day pays tribute to one of the world’s most planted and popular red wine grapes. This French Nobel variety has spread its roots across thousands of vineyard acres in practically every wine making country and is on every wine enthusiast’s wish list given the sheer number of styles of ‘Cab’ that wine makers have evolved in both the new and the old world. This thick skinned red grape of an intense garnet hue has adapted to a number of different terroir on every continent save the poles! Cabernet Sauvignon is most famed for being a vital part of the world’s most famous Bordeaux red wine blend.
And while Bordeaux is where the Cab is originally from, the grape has thrived neighbouring Italy where it was part of the historic Super Tuscan revolution. But it is in the new world though that the Cab literally found reinvented itself as a single varietal wine and at the uber premium end, a handcrafted single vineyard wine. South Africa has earned great repute for producing elegant and opulent Cabernets while Chile has practically built its red wine credentials on a bold and ripe style and successfull blended the Cab with Carmenere. And in Napa, the Cabernet has floored critics with sublime phenolic ripeness and the capacity to age for several years. So to celebrate International Cabernet Day, Wine Park has handpicked four of Cabernet Sauvignon’s best styles on the planet.
