We’ve got some interesting rainy day ferments for you to pour as the monsoons storm our island city.
The rains are the perfect relief from the sweltering summer and a bridge to autumn. And we’re currently right in the middle of an intense monsoon season that is literally immersing us in generous sheets of rains. Our monsoons rather uniquely seesaw from humid afternoons to cold and windy late evenings and nights so we’ve got for you a interesting bunch of wines ranging from crisp and fresh whites to heart warming reds. Man Family, Padstal Chardonnay 2019
The Man Family Chardonnay is a super approachable and value driven Chardonnay one can daily day drink or in this case, down through the rains! A great example of the South African fresh fruity style, it abounds with notes of lychee and peach upfront and flavours of lime, citrus and green apple with a whiff on oak on the finish. Pinot Grigio is one of Italy’s most famous white wine exports and for good reason. This one from the cool, northerly Alto Adije region is easy drinking and full of peach and citrus fruit and fresh burst of acidity. While rosé wine is taken to be the ideal summertime pour, its pleasingly refreshing character also nicely compliments a day of gusty rain. This Mediterranean rosé is salmon pink, drinks light and crisp with flavours of cherry raspberry and melon that stay remarkably long on the palate. This medium bodied fruity red is made from Grenache in the Rhone Valley. In fact that’s where Grenache is originally from. This Southern French wine pleases with a velvety texture, notes of cherry, raspberry and pepper, finishing with silky tannins. You’re in for a real treat with this zesty white wine. Torrontes is almost exclusively produced only in Argentina and Dominio Del Plata is one Argentina’s best producers of this white wine. Delicate, silky tannins are the foundation of the Saint Clair Pinot Noir that expresses flavours of raspberry, strawberry, blackberry and layers of coffee with a whiff of vanilla that indicates oak ageing. It’s a family estate produced red from Marlborough – the soul of New Zealand’s Pinot Noir phenomenon. And during the monsoon’s really chilly patches, the Pinot Noir is the perfect earthy red to warm the bones and turn even incessant rain into one’s idea of a perfect day.
