Chateau Brane-Cantenac
Bordeaux / Left Bank, France
Château Brane-Cantenac is located in Bordeaux’s highly coveted Margaux appellation on the left bank of the Gironde. The wine produced here was classified as one of fifteen Deuxièmes Crus (Second Growths) in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The estate’s present owner Henri Lurton believes in a hands-on approach to winemaking rather than relying on technology.
The vineyards are planted atop sandy, gravel-based soils interspersed with large pebbles that retain warmth from the sun while the gravel efficiently drains water from around the vines. The Chateau has significant plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as Cabernet Franc and, notably Carménère. Brane-Cantenac is aged for 18 months in new oak barrels.
