This is one of my all-time favorite Brunellos, and although persol tastes are fluid and may change from time to time, there is something timeless and solid about this wine. It's like a touchstone. The Casanova di Neri 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is graced with a similar interlude of elegant rosé or crushed flower that we saw in the anta wine. It appears more prominently here, and with more shape and focused intensity.
Expressive, complex and long, despite its compact profile today. Delivers black cherry, blackberry, violet, mineral and tobacco flavors that prevail, while assertive yet refined tannins leave their mark on the lingering finish.
This wine is a premium Brunello style with a powerful and balanced bouquet, teeming with whites flowers, cherry and blackberry, savoury notes and firm tannins. On the palate, there’s a richness of ripe fruit and depth of flavour, complimented by bright acidity and barrel aged charm, capped by impressive length.
Is this Italian red likely to impress? You bet! It will do a lot more than that. This Brunello Di Montalcino will make a vinous memory. Produced in Tuscany's most illustrious appellation, that sits at the very top of the pecking order that includes Chianti Classico and the Super Tuscans, this wine is considered to be the gold standard of long-aged Sangiovese. This vintage effort from the traditional house of Casanova di Neri hits all the high notes with a palate of dark plum, spice and herbs as well a touch of smoke from generous barrel ageing complimented by deliciously supple tannins.
