The 2017 Phélan Ségur is medium to deep garnet-purple colored with pronounced cassis, black raspberries, kirsch and violets with notions of cedar, earth and cigars. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant with great intensity, fine-grained and firm, finishing long and perfumed.

TASTING NOTES
Offers a dark, dense feel, with layers of fig, blackberry, leather, chestnut, tobacco and loam all carrying through the broad, smoky finish. Features solid fruit, with an ample tug of earth. A solid effort for the vintage.
The fruit for Phélan Ségur's wines comes from the haloed terroir of Saint-Estèphe in the Medoc on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Phélan Ségur has 70 hectares under vine, of which over half are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon which thrives on the Left Bank, perhaps better than any other region on earth. The region's soil comprises a thick layer of gravel with pebbles and above all the gravels coated with clay sands. The Chateau handpicks all its fruit and has dedicated tanks to ferment juice from each of its 39 vineyard parcels. The estate's flagship wine Château Phélan Ségur reveals the purity of the fruit, the accuracy of its structure, the silkiness of its tannins, complimented by natural freshness a veneer of oak maturity.
