Smelling this transports you to the ochre-colored Tuscan countryside: the scent of the sun-dried earth and the oak forest is right there with the characteristically tangy Marasca cherry note of Sangiovese. The body has tension and shape without being heavy, there is freshness and bite: this was made for the table. This is pervasive and honest, has both impact and agility. The fruit -redcurrant, cranberry and Morello cherry- sings with purity on the finish. This has charm and character in spades.

Bottle Story+
Romitorio is an artisanal Tuscan winery of staggering repute for a number of reasons and elevating the reputation of Rosso di Montalcino is prime among them. The second wine of the estate as it were, like Bordeaux, Rosso di Montalcino is seen to be sitting a rung below big brother as a younger version of big brother Brunello but the house of Romitorio aims to defer. The fruit is picked from a parcel rich in marl and clay soils and a uniquely slow vinification process and 18 months of barrel ageing yields a rich age worthy ferment that could compete with a Brunello in a blind tasting. Ripe red berries and firm tannins define the palate of this tantalizing modern style.
