The Castello Romitorio 2019 RomiTòro is a generous Tuscan blend of Petit Verdot and Syrah. This is a terrific value from a vintage that delivers excellent balance, intensity and richness. That beautiful concentration is what drives this wine, imparting dark fruit flavors, plum, spice and sweet tobacco along the way. This was a terrific vintage in both Maremma and Montalcino, the two areas where Filippo Chia makes wine.
A dense, tightly wound style, evoking black cherry, black currant and spice flavors. There's a beam of fruit midpalate that gets swallowed up by the beefy tannins on the finish. Petit Verdot and Syrah.
Intense floral and fruity notes. Presence of violets, ripe black cherry and plum aromas. Reveals a toasty and spicy character of black pepper and chocolate. Its sweet and juicy mouthfeel delivers finesse, delicate tannins and an elegant finish of black fruits.
This rare house blend of Syrah and Petit Verdot reflects Romitorio's creative ambitions. It's also recognition of Tuscany's historic revolution of Super Tuscan that saw the region's greatest winemakers rebel against authority and dared to plant French varietals. And that is what Filippo Chia has done with this blend of a Rhone Valley and Bordeaux grape. Filippo follows his father Sandro's philosophy of viticulture, of enhancing the virtues that already exist in the vineyard by farming with minimal intervention. The wine has been matured under oak for a year that drinks of juicy black fruit and sweet spices with cedar on the finish.
