The Californians are the single minded lovers and champions of the Zinfandel, a feisty and rich red grape that the old world has recently done little with. The boutique Prisoner Wine Company however does a lot with this red grape, putting its best effort forward with the Saldo Zinfandel, made from fruit picked from vineyards in prime Zinfandel classifications of Dry Creek, Lodi, and Sierra Foothills. Winemaker Chrissy Wittmann who lives and breathes Californian terroir tempers Zinfandel's intense ripe fruit character with 9 months of ageing in American and French oak, bringing forth a rich scarlet ferment, teeming with blackberries, dark chocolate and seductive mouthfeel that lingers for an eternity.
