The 2021 Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots unwinds in the glass with a gently reductive bouquet of plums, red berries and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively and supple palate.

TASTING NOTES

The Pommard 1er Cru "Les Grands Epenots” wine has a dark red colour with intense aromas of blackcurrant. Taste dominated by astringency thanks to well-marked acidity and a mellowness that only appears after a minimum of maturation.

Bottle Story+

Pommard sits in Côte de Beaune's deep south, replete with vineyards atop limestone and rocky soils, with a reputation for making red Burgundy of the highest order. And Vincent Girardin owns a especially prized parcel near the village called Pommard Les Epenots which is a so sought after as a Premier Cru vineyard, having been considered more than once for Grand Cru status. This reputation has a lot to do with the hardy character of the old vines and the drainage which compels the vines to draw deeply from the land, yielding fruit of high concentration. This fruit is handpicked, crushed and aged for 15 months in barrels, 30 per cent of which are new. This finely aged red Burgundy displays the hallmark character of Pommard, treading a fine balance of elegant berry fruit and muscular character with visible acidity, finishing mellow.

Please store all wines between 12 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Wines under cork are best opened using a corkscrew.

Remove the foil using the corkscrew’s foil cutter and insert the spirally corkscrew into the center of the cork.

Twist in clockwise motion until the corkscrew is entirely inside.

Rest the corkscrew’s lever on the bottle’s lip and pull the handle to bring out the cork.

To get the perfect serving temperature for red wine, store in fridge for up to 2 hours to serve at 16 to 18 degrees C.

Serve red wine in a classic red wine glass that allows the wine to release its range of aromas and flavours.
