Bottle Story+
Pinotage is the pride and joy of South Africa and remains the only red grape of international profile to have been created in the 20th century. Created by South African viticulture professor Abraham Izak who crossed Pinot Noir with Cinsault to create vinous history, Pinotage is a South African treasure that shines most brightly on the country's Western Cape vineyards. This is where a community of 26 farming families under the umbrella of Robertson winery work together to create terroir driven wines. Cellar master Bowen Botha has smartly assessed the Robertson Valley terroir that is bathed in ample sunlight tempered by cooling nights and taken a minimal intervention approach towards vinification. While Pinotage can be typically lush and jammy, Bowen has crafted a subtle, barrel aged style that highlights the wholesome fruity flavours of strawberry and plum with silky tannins lingering nicely.
