Thunevin
Bordeaux/Saint Emilion, France
Jean-Luc Thunevin was never one for following the rules on anything sowhen he bought his first parcel of Bordeaux vines in St Emilion over 31 yearsago, he began reinventing them. What gave was his first vintage of ChâteauValandraud, one of the world’s first garage wines. Working with an innovativeapproach, Thunevin won over Bordeaux’s foremost critics Robert Parker with95 points soon after.Thunevin then emerged as Bordeaux’s quintessential Bad Boy and leadinggarage vintner. He believes that harvesting and destemming by hand, croppinglow yields and using new French oak has translated into the estate’s manysublime vintages. His vineyards are planted in soils of clay and limestone withthe region’s top varietals and his wines are intense yet elegant.
